Carole King

Born: Carol Klein
Feb. 9, 1942
Brooklyn, New York

"I've been pretty busy the last few months.  After I came back from touring in Japan with Mary J. Blige and Fergie, I played six sets with James Taylor at The Troubadour in Los Angeles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Troubadour along with the 37th anniversary of James' and my first appearance there together.

Or, as James likes to say, "Evidently we played here in 1970".

"I so enjoy performing with James.  Whenever we play together, it's as if no time has passed, and we have a similar musical sensibility that seems to resonate with audiences, i.e., you.  It was James's encouragement and example that inspired me to become confident enough as a performer that I could have fun on stage.  My restrained presentation of Natural Woman on Tapestry seems to have morphed over the years into the more joyous, outgoing interpretation you see on my live concert DVD, 'Welcome to My Living Room.'

Tapestry, Still A Treasure
 Dawn Bonner

Carole King has just been confirmed to perform at the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Center for the Performing Arts in Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 22nd. This special performance is the grand finale of the 20th Anniversary Heart to Heart Gala, which benefits cardiac services at the Kettering Medical Center.

Even though this is a fund raising event, this will be open to the public and Carole will be performing one of her classic Living Room Tour shows.

The album 'Tapestry' was in the first twelve albums I owned at 15 years old.  I never tired of it, still to this day I absolutely love all of the songs on it.  Listening to King's voice today is still a pleasure.  Her voice has withstood the test of time, it hasn't aged, yet there is another faucet added to her ambiance and style.  She is now having fun, playing with her songs, her audience, and life itself.  What a joy that we get to see King in concert, a confident, joyous woman who is doing what she loves.

"People seem to love the living room concept because it's back to basics," said King. "The concerts are about intimacy, and even though I'm not up close with every single person, they get it that there's very little between me, them and the music.”
